The Cat in the Hat

The Cat

If you read the book without getting into details, you'll see the cat as an id. The id is like the rebel or little devil inside of you. He's rebellious because he goes against what he's told to do. He believes in having fun and that if you have fun, thats all there is to it. After reading the book and actually paying attention to the pictures and the details, I see the cat as a superego. The superego dictates whats right and whats wrong. Being an id, he goes into a house and plays games only to trash the place. He does what he thinks is fun and wants others to follow him so that they'll have fun also. He starts off by going into a strangers house and starts playing his games. He plans out the whole day with games that he think are fun. He brings in Thing 1 & Thing 2 (I know, sounds dirty right? haha.) to play along with oinly to have them totally mess up the house. He doesn't stop even when the Fish constantly tells him to go away. But when I say that he's also a superego, its because he cares for the kids. The narrator and Sally were bored and the Cat was trying to lighten up the mood by playing games with them. He's also responsible by cleaning up the mess at the end of the story. He shows both the id and the superego in him at the same time so I realized that if you don't pay attention to the details, you wouldn't understand.

*Erin, I'll miss you :( You were a cool student teacher :D You'll do good in life.
